Two home runs by Adam Brett Walker provide all the offense needed as Milkmen win series finale in Chicago

Right now it's Adam Brett Walker's world, and we are all just living in it.

The Milwaukee Milkmen left fielder and hometown native had hit a home run in four consecutive ballgames this week before the Chicago Dogs held him off the board in Saturday's contest. Walker must have felt awfully guilty about the 0-4 (with a walk) that he took, because he made up for it by going deep not just once, but two times during Sunday's series finale against the Dogs.

After Chicago starter Eddie Butler retired the first two batters to begin the afternoon affair, Walker stepped up to the plate and launched an 0-1 pitch out of the ballpark to give the Milkmen an early 1-0 lead. The Dogs answered quickly against David Holmberg, however, who toed the slab to start the game for Milwaukee. Mike Crouse led off the game for Chicago in the bottom of the first inning, and he sent a 2-1 pitch from Holmberg over the fence to knot the score up at one apiece.

Both pitchers settled in after the opening frame, as the Dogs and Milkmen traded zeroes up until the eighth inning. Lefty reliever Wes Helsabeck relieved Butler with a scoreless seventh inning and then came back out to begin the following one, with Walker scheduled to face him as the first batter of the eighth. He fouled off Helsabeck's first offering, then crushed the 0-1 pitch and gave Milwaukee a 2-1 lead. With two bombs today, Walker now has 20 on the season and is hitting .282/.333/.638. He hit six home runs in six games during the past week against the Dogs, and has 10 home runs in his last 13 games dating back to August 16th.

Walker's two solo home runs accounted for all the Milkmen offense in Sunday afternoon's tilt, but that was all the support that the league's best pitching staff needed as the hurlers recorded yet another dominant performance. Holmberg allowed just the one first-inning run, scattering seven hits across 6.0 innings while walking two and striking out six. Zach Hartman worked around a hit and a walk to post a scoreless seventh, then AJ Schugel and Peyton Gray each threw a 1-2-3 frame to close out the ballgame. Gray recorded his 12th save of the season.

After going 4-2 during their six games with the Dogs this week, the Milkmen now sit with a record of 29-22 on the season. They will head into the Monday off-day with a 2.0 game lead on the Sioux Falls Canaries for first place in the American Association. Next, the Milkmen head to St. Paul to take on the Saints for a three-game road series at CHS Field. Game one on Tuesday night is scheduled to begin at 7:05 PM.
